Dear Sirs,

The year 2014 will mark the 10th anniversary of Poland’s membership in the European Union. It has been time of intensive changes and adjustments in many areas of social and economic life for our country. Polish accession to the European Union weighted also a lot to the agriculture and rural areas in Poland.

Regarding the role of the Common Agricultural Policy mechanisms in stimulating the changes in agriculture and rural areas, the Faculty of Economic Sciences at WULS-SGGW in cooperation with the Institute of Rural and Agricultural Development of the Polish Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Soil Science and Plant Cultivation – State Research Institute are going to organize an international scientific conference entitled "Agriculture, Food Industry, Rural Areas – 10 Years in the European Union" which will take place on the 11th of April, 2014 in the Crystal Hall of the Warsaw University of Life Sciences.

The aim of the conference is to summarise ten years of Polish membership in the European Union and its role in changes which have taken place throughout the food industry and rural areas. The intention of the organizers is to cover extremely important issues related to the functioning of Polish agriculture and rural areas under the Common Agricultural Policy of the European Union by the scientific discourse. Among them are the following issues:

• Global Conditions of the Common Agricultural Policy;
• The functioning of the food chain;
• Social and structural changes in agriculture and in rural areas;
• The income situation and taxation of agriculture;
• Trade in the area of agri-food products;
• Operation of agricultural sectors;
• Environmental aspects of the Common Agricultural Policy.

The conference will also provide an opportunity to integrate academia of agricultural economists, and will contribute to a construction of a platform for cooperation between the representatives of science and practice.
